My research team conducts research on phenomena related to narcissism and entitlement in cross-cultural context.

Academic research conducted

Currently, I run two NCN grants: the first concerns the introduction of an agency-communal model for research on the phenomenon of collective narcissism. Research has confirmed that collective narcissism can be realized both in the agentic form (i.e. unrealistic belief that one's group is extremely effective and deserves dominance over others) and communal form (based on the unrealistic belief that the own group is extremely friendly and moral, which special treatment is deserved). Both forms lead to similar effects - faith in conspiracies, prejudices against out-groups, but also greater social well-being (satisfaction with themselves as a member of the group and their own social relations).

The second project concerns the proposal of a new model of individual narcissism. The Circumplex Model of Narcissism is based on the dimensions organized into the agentic versus passive and communal vs. Antagonistic narcissism. This is due to the use of dimensions of agency and community for research on grandiose and vulnerable narcissism. Preliminary research confirms the validity of the model.

In addition, I completed three international projects. The last, covering 56 countries, concerned intercultural diversity of the level of individual and collective narcissism in the agentic and communal form as well as entitlement. We have demonstrated that narcissism and entitlement is especially widespread in hierarchical cultures, while their level is not related to a higher level of individualism.

Cooperation

Scientific – the full list involves 66 countries.

The most important ones: University of Mannheim (Germany), University of Southampton (UK), University of Georgia (USA), University of Leicester (UK), Czech Academy of Sciences, Victoria University of Wellington (New Zealand), University of Kyoto (Japan), University of Kyoto (Japan)

Offer for entrepreneurs

  • Research on entitlement and narcissism. Both phenomena are of key importance in in the supervisor-subordinate relationships, the attitude to the organization, and involvement in desired and harmful activities in the workplace (e.g. demanding pay for the work done, coping with conflicts from work). The results of our studies are especially useful in the work with international teams.
  • Diagnosis of the level of narcissism and entitlement.
  • Qualitative research is directed at the study of personality determinants of efficiency of work, satisfaction with the organization, interpersonal relations in the workplace.
