Areas
Key words

The research objects of the Zoology Laboratory are small soil invertebrates, epigenetic and epiphytic. It is a group which, despite strong urbanizational pressure, has a strong representation is numerous ecosystems, including urban ones.

Academic research conducted

Research area covers the urban green spaces and the parks of Warsaw – Młociński, Skaryszewski, Bielański. The works are also conducted on the agricultural and set-aside suburban areas in the communities of Łomianki and Czosnów. In the framework of the works, evaluation of biological diversity of ecosystems under strong human pressure is performed. Significant proportion of data collected is published or transferred to district or community administration.

Offer for entrepreneurs

  • Fauna soil analysis from various natural and anthropogenic habitats. Analyzed groups of soil animals are nematodes, mites, springtails, potworms and earthworms;
  • The evaluation of the number of plant parasitic nematodes (excluding eelworms and root-knot nematodes);
  • Microbiological soil analyses – general amount of aerobic bacteria, fungi and moulds as well as E. coli and coliform bacteria (on Petrifilm plates);
  • Measurements of pH, humidity and the content of organic matter in soil;
  • Determination of soil microbial biomass based on their respiration (SIR method);
  • Determination of enzyme soil activity (dehydrogenase, phosphatase);
  • Determination of buffering capacity of the soil;
  • Determination of various forms of mineral nitrogen (ammonium and nitrate) – spectrophotometric analyses;
  • Microbiological and physico-chemical analyses of water samples – general number of aerobic bacteria, fungi and moulds, as well as E. coli and coliform bacteria (on Petrifilm plates), plus pH, ammoniacal nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, total, orthophosphates, total phosphorus, potassium, iron and chorine);
  • Expertise in the field of: soil quality, based on analysis of groups of microbes and soil animals (density, species composition, trophic structure);
  • Evaluation of general biological soil activity based on measurement of CO2 diffusion (EGM-4 system for CO2 environmental monitoring);
  • Consultations pertaining activities fostering regeneration of biological life of tired and degraded soils.
